Booklist has dubbed Brian Ray "a talent to watch." His short fiction has been nominated
for inclusion in the Pushcart Prize anthology and Best New American Voices. Ray is a
winner of the 2007 SC Fiction Project and a finalist for the Next Generation Indie Book
Award as well as the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Prize. His work has appeared in Green
Mountains Review, Timbercreek Review, Louisiana Review, and New South. Before moving to
NC, he also wrote for the Free Times and the Columbia City Paper.
Author Trivia
Worked at a steel mill (four summers), a pizzeria, a coffee-bar, a vegan restaurant, two
grocery stores, and an SAT prep service.
Sneaked through the old CCI prison in Columbia before it was torn down. Also sneaked
into a rock quarry and got chased out. Ran the Broad River through Columbia barefoot.
As a kid, shook hands with Adam West and told him he thought Michael Keaton was a
slightly better Batman.
Played piano and upright bass in high school. Lettered in cross-country.
Drinks coffee like Voltaire, who averaged twenty cups a day. He drinks so much coffee
that people used to make fun of him.
People say he looks like Wolverine. A very thin one.
Used to write for an all-crime newspaper called Snitch.
Currently writing a second novel.
